چکیده

Data warehouse projects are notoriously difficult to manage and many of them end in failure. One explanation for the high failure rate is that managers are not taking prudent measures to assess and manage the risks involved in the data warehouse project. In this paper we introduce the goaldriven risk management approach of the easyREMOTE framework. We classify the risks of a data warehouse system into categories of risk sources and discuss their consequences to the data warehouse project. Further, we show the relevance of risks to the go/no-go decision of the data warehouse project. Finally, we present an approach for documenting data warehouse risks.

A Solution to View Management to Build a Data Warehouse

Several techniques exist to select and materialize a proper set of data in a suitable structure that manage the queries submitted to the online analytical processing systems. These techniques are called view management techniques, which consist of three research areas: 1) view selection to materialize, 2) query processing and rewriting using the materialized views, and 3) maintaining materializ...

Introducing a New Formulation for the Warehouse Inventory Management Systems: with Two Stochastic Demand Patterns

This paper presents a new formulation for warehouse inventory management in a stochastic situation. The primary source of this formulation is derived from FP model, which has been proposed by Fletcher and Ponnambalam for reservoir management. The new proposed mathematical model is based on the first and the second moments of storage as a stochastic variable. Using this model, the expected value...

The Cost Function for a Two-warehouse and Three-Echelon Inventory System

In this paper, the cost function for a three-echelon inventory system with two warehouses is derived. Transportation times are constant and retailers face independent Poisson demand. Replenishments are one-for-one. The lead time of a retailer is determined not only by the constant transportation time but also by the random delay incurred due to the availability of stock at the warehouses. We co...

The optimal warehouse capacity: A queuing-based fuzzy programming approach

Among the various existing models for the warehousing management, the simultaneous use of private and public warehouses is as the most well-known one. The purpose of this article is to develop a queuing theory-based model for determining the optimal capacity of private warehouse in order to minimize the total corresponding costs. In the proposed model, the available space and budget to create a...

Data Warehouse for EIS: Some Issues and Impacts

Data warehouse is one of the most rapidly growing areas in management information systems. With this approach, data for EIS and DSS applications is separated from operational data and stored in a separate database called a data warehouse. Some of the advantages of this approach are improved performance, better data quality, and the ability to consolidate and summarize data from heterogeneous le...
